Evening has come and it is time to tuck those little (and not so little) kids into bed. To snuggle and read our favorite books. To rub backs and talk about the sweetest parts of our day.
Well, this is not what happens at our house. Usually when 7pm hits our home I AM TIRED! And I am so tempted to rush through our bedtime routine. Too often we skip the back rubs and even the stories, but here is something that we should never skip, praying over our children.
Here are 5 things we pray over our children when we tuck them in at night.
We ask that God will:
1. Guard them
We pray that God would guard their little hearts against the evil found in this world, against the evil lurking in their own hearts and against the evil in other people.
2. Defend them
We pray that God would defend our children against the attacks of the devil. Satan has no compassion and seeks the ruin of everyone including our children.
3. Guide them
We plead that God guides them to Jesus at an early age. That they trust in him and love him with all their heart, mind and soul.
4. Grow them
We intercede on their behalf that God would grow our children in faith and holiness. That they would have a passion for Jesus that results in them being a bright light in this world.
5. Prepare them
We pray that no matter what God calls them to that he would prepare them to work at it with all their might and to do everything to the glory of God.
*As a side note, we don't necessarily use these exact words when we pray out loud with our kids but we do try to cover all these points.
