Here we go. Another school year is starting (at least for us). The days of staying up late and sleeping in are gone and it is time to get use to a new schedule.
Even though we homeschool and therefore have the ability to have a more flexible schedule I prefer getting up early, having my quiet time, and then starting school by 8. This always looks fantastic on paper, but since I am dealing with real live people and the sad fact that I am not a morning person by nature, I can assure you that many mornings may not go according to my plan.
One thing I know I will need no matter what, is time in the word of God. I need encouragement in order to lovingly deal with children who aren’t as thrilled as I think they should be about school work. I need conviction in areas of my life where I have left sin fester and I need instruction so I can grow in the knowledge of God, the life and death of Christ my Savior and how all of it is necessary for me if I want to make it through my day and especially our school year.
I want to be resolved to consistently be in God’s word. One book that has been so helpful and encouraging to me has been Jen Wilkins Book “Women of The Word.”
It is a refreshing look at the study of scripture and a sure encouragement to make it a consistent part of your life. My favorite part is her focus on God throughout the whole book.
“We are like Moses. The Bible is our burning bush - a faithful declaration of the presence and holiness of God.”
Yes! It all begins and ends with God, specifically with Christ, and so we must look for him in everything we read.
“A vision of God high and lifted up reveals to me my sin and increases my love for him. Grief and love lead to genuine repentance, and I begin to be conformed to the image of the One I behold”
And don’t we all want to be conformed into the image of Jesus?
So I hope as many of you start your new back to school/ end of summer schedules that it will include first and foremost, the study of the Word of God.
