Some people are really good at “knowing” stuff about others, we usually refer to them as “busy-bodies.” Others seem to know a lot about everything. We say that they are wicked smart. And there is also that special knowledge moms have, it’s like a 6th sense that makes us very in tune to what our children are up to at any given moment. God created us to be intelligent creatures, yet no matter how smart someone may be, or how much knowledge someone may have, it doesn’t come close to the infinite knowledge of God.
Our God knows not only all the events that have taken place, or will take place, but he also knows every single word that has been or will ever be spoken. He knows every thought that passes through our minds, every motive that lays behind every action, and every attitude that accompanies every conversation.
He doesn’t forget anything and he misses nothing.
"If [God] should wish to tell us the number of grains of sand on the seashore or the number of stars in the sky, he would not have to count them all quickly like some kind of giant computer, nor would he have to call the number to mind because it was something he had not thought about for a time. Rather, he knows all things at once. All of these facts and all other things that he knows are always fully present in his consciousness"
For those who do not know Christ this should be a terrifying thought. That God sees and knows their lying hearts, deceptive ways, wicked speech, and selfish desires. But for those who are in Christ Jesus this doctrine should be a huge comfort.
Yes, he knows the depth and details of our sins, but he loves us still with an unwavering love. He sees our struggles and he understands better than we do what we are going through. He knows every feeling we experience, every twinge of anxiety, every fear, every hurt that has been done to us. Not only does he know, he understands them perfectly.
“Can you appropriate that thought? From the crown of your head to the sole of your foot, God is examining you now; his scalpel is in your heart, his lancet in your breast. He is searching your heart and trying your reins; he knows you behind and before. "Thou God seest me;" thou seest me entirely.”
If we want humility then we should study the omniscience of God. Nothing will kill pride more than then awesome vastness of his knowledge compared to our finite and flawed intelligence. Our God is an awesome God!
"Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight.
Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the
eyes of Him to whom we must give account.
